Abstract:
This layer is comprised of differentially corrected GPS positions for roads and driveways within Flathead County. This data depicts "legal" (or official) attributes maintained by the Flathead County Plat Room.
Purpose:
This data was originally compiled for road inventory purposes and is now used extensively by the Flathead County GIS department for mapping and analysis purposes. On occasion, roads are digitized into this dataset prior to GPS data collection.

Data Quality Information:
Attribute accuracy report:
Attributes have been taken from a variety of sources including the Flathead County road books and/or files. Blank entries are common within city limits where Flathead County does not maintain road records. Attributes have not been audited for accuracy but are thought to primarily reflect Flathead County's road records where applicable. The "Type" field most often reflects the condition of the road when it was GPS'd and has no regular update schedule. Road names are derived from legal documents housed in the Flathead County Plat Room.

Completeness report:
GPS data collection for this data set began in 1997 and will continue as new roads are built.


Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report:
Differentially corrected GPS data is reputed to have an approximate 1-3 meter accuracy level. Accuracy for this data has not been analyzed but is assumed to generally fall within this approximation. This data is not suitable for high precision measurement applications. Digitized roads are generally created following the drafted parcel lines and any available imagery in the area. They are not considered to be accurate and should not be used in any precision measurement applications.

Attribution reflects Fuel Tax Assessment restrictions as defined by MDOT. A road is considered unrestricted and open to public travel when that section of the road is available for public use (except during periods of extreme weather or emergency conditions) and is passable by a two-wheel-drive passenger car. Roads included in the national highway system and in the primary system (as defined by MDOT) are Otherwise Restricted, as are roads located within any incorporated city limit boundary or under jurisdiction of the US Forest Service (see the Land Stewardship and Managed areas dataset available on NRIS for USFS jurisdictional boundaries).
